Our Projects

Since 1996, Telecollaborate has developed and managed collaborative projects for the K-12 educational community. All projects were developed and tested on the Internet in conjunction with classroom around the world. They demonstrate major types of information exchange strategies.


Signs of Autumn, Signs of Spring
Observation, discussion, art, writing, analysis
1996-CURRENT
For five weeks, primary students in the Northern hemishere will follow Spring's progression, while students in the Southern hemisphere will follow Autumn's development. Students will share weekly observations and optional drawings and gain a first hand understanding of seasonal change on a global level. Repeats October and March annually.


 Playwriting in the Round Playwriting in the Round
1997-CURRENT
Progressive script writing circle
Grades 5-10 classes collaborate with 3 same level classes to write scripts of 4 mystery plays. Each play consists of 4 acts, one act written by each of the classes in the script circle. At the conclusion of the project, each class will have four orignial plays for use in other dramatic activities. Culminates with optional IRC conference on the dramatic process. Every October.

What's News?
Research, discussion, deduction, writing, IRC
1998-1999
Study current events online in an exciting game format! During each 3-week cycle, students will investigate a selected global issue/event and create questions in a game-style format. Join any of the WWW sessions.


State of the Union
1998-1999
Internet Research and IRC simulation
Students analyze the U.S. President's State of the Union Addressto identify issues and goals. Students will select one of the issues discussed by the president for investigation. They brainstorm strategies to achieve these goals and use media coverage to assess political climate and possible obstacles. Students prepare recommendations for the president, for publication on the WWW. An optional IRC simulation will cuminate the project, with students assuming roles as presidential advisors to prioritize and plan strategies for achieving national goals.




Virtual Comics: CyStick's CyberVentures
1997-1999
Exchanging Graphics
Students explore humor and develop ideas while learning cartooning skills. Topics focus upon school issues, creating a succession of cartoons and comics to be published on the WWW.


Who Elects the President?
Research, voting, data analysis, discussion, writing
Honorable Mention in ISTE's SIG/Tel 1997 Lesson Plan Activity Contest
Students in grades 5-12 research the Election '96 Presidential candidates and issues, participate in two votes: an announced optional vote and an unannounced mandatory vote, analyze results, and consider voting issues in online editorials and political cartoons.

Share and compare weather reports.

Primary school students compared global weather conditions by sharing monthly reports about their weather conditions, what they wear and what they do outside for fun via the project web site (emailed to classes with email access only).
